The City of Winnipeg is looking at building a new recreation centre in southeast Winnipeg to meet the needs of the growing community.
The proposed Bonavista Recreation Centre will include a gymnasium and multipurpose rooms. It would be located in Fraipont Park near the intersection of Evelyne Reese Boulevard and Warde Avenue and would give residents more chances to participate in activities, spend time together, and enjoy the park.
Phase 1 of public engagement will introduce the project to the community and gather early input to guide the design.
Phase 2 will present the design to the community and stakeholders for feedback.
Background:
In 2014, Council approved a plan for southeast Winnipeg to guide the development of the growing area. The plan suggested building a recreation centre and an adjacent park to serve about 30,000 people
The park was built in 2017
In 2024, Council set aside $250,000 for a feasibility study for the recreation centre. The feasibility study will include:
An assessment the community’s needs and interests in different types of recreational activities
An early design of the building and the surrounding park space
An estimate of the operating costs
An estimate of the construction costs (Class 4 -30% to +60%)

Planning for the proposed Bonavista Recreation Centre is starting. We want your input to ensure the community’s needs are met.
In this phase of public engagement, we want to hear from residents of southeast Winnipeg about what activities they want to do and how they will use the proposed recreation centre. Input will help us design the proposed recreation centre. We will share the design with residents and gather their feedback in Phase 2 public engagement this winter.
