North Garage Replacement Project
Consultation has concluded

We are building a new bus garage in northwest Winnipeg at the intersection of Oak Point Highway and Selkirk Avenue. The new garage will replace Transit’s existing North Garage on Main Street. The existing North Garage is beyond its useful life and is too small for future needs.
Transit needs a modern garage to accommodate approximately 250 buses that have unique characteristics, including:
- 60-foot articulated (”bendy”) buses
- Buses with bike racks
- Buses with roof-mounted air conditioners
- Zero-emission buses
The garage will also include an energy efficient bus storage, service, and maintenance facility.

Construction of Oak Point Garage begins
Share Construction of Oak Point Garage begins on Facebook Share Construction of Oak Point Garage begins on Twitter Share Construction of Oak Point Garage begins on Linkedin Email Construction of Oak Point Garage begins linkCity Council approved the award of construction for Oak Point Garage in July 2025, and site work began in August.
We celebrated this milestone with a ceremony on September 9, 2025, along with all three levels of government. The event also included a design unveiling.
Construction of Oak Point Garage is expected to be completed in 2027. Take a virtual tour of the future garage.
Oak Point Garage will be replacing our aging North Garage. At 259,000 sq. ft., it will give us the ability to purchase and maintain more 60-foot buses. Right now, only Brandon Garage can accommodate buses of this size.
The new garage will also allow us to expand our Transition to Zero-Emission Bus Program. It will have electrical chargers and dispensers for 24 battery-electric buses. There will be room for future zero-emission expansion as well.
