This is a total no brainer. Every self-respecting jurisdiction in Canada already has some form of this. Winnipeg is the most backward hold out that refuses to do it because it will cost a little bit to set it up and get it running. This needs to change.

Too few facilities that accept, & not always convenient. People are more compliant when something is convenient and simple.

The beer stores are super particular about what they accept and won't even take cider cans that are purchased at the LC. Currently we keep all our liquor and beer cans and bottles and return them in Ontario. It would also be nice if our community centres could take items Terracycle recycles, such as dog/cat food bags, baby food pouches, coffee bags, the list is endless.
0 comment3ljtwpg6 months agoReplace Recycle Everywhere with City of Winnipeg recycling bins in public spaces
Recycle Everywhere only recycles beverage containers, as is their mandate being funded by the beverage industry. Having their bins in public spaces (both permanently in parks and temporarily at events) might save the city money, but most citizens don't know the difference and put all kinds of recycling in these bins, not knowing that most of it will not be recycled. Replace these with city bins and collect them for recycling like residential blue bins.

I think it would help to have decals or labels, with pictures, that specify what should and shouldn't go in the appropriate bins.
