Background

The St. James Civic Centre was built in 1967. It features an indoor arena, a swimming pool, a fitness room, and an auditorium. Critical building code, mechanical, electrical, structural and accessibility upgrades which began in 2020 were recently completed.

In July 2021, the Government of Canada, Province of Manitoba, and City of Winnipeg announced $14 million in funding to expand the St. James Civic Centre.

The project has been developed with the help of the St. James Assiniboia 55+ Centre who will be relocating to the St. James Civic Centre to provide recreation programming that complements programming provided by the City of Winnipeg.

Construction is expected to begin in fall 2023.
