Winnipeg Road Safety - Focus Areas & Actions

The City of Winnipeg is developing a Road Safety Strategic Action Plan, which will serve as a roadmap for setting the direction and pace of road safety investments over the next 3-5 years and beyond.

Some of the main things we heard during Phase 1 of engagement was that:

  • Road design is a major influence on road safety and gaps in infrastructure need to be addressed to improve safety for all road users.
  • Improvements for road safety education are required for all road users.
  • Further enforcement is required to limit unsafe behaviours.

After hearing from you on what matters most when it comes to road safety in Winnipeg, the draft focus areas and actions are here and we want to hear from you!

What is a focus area?

Focus areas represent top road safety priorities in Winnipeg. The Winnipeg Road Safety Strategic Action Plan’s five focus areas have been developed based on collision data, technical expertise, and public and stakeholder input received during Phase 1 of engagement. These focus areas will help us allocate resources and develop targeted action and implementation plans to improve road safety.

Actions have been developed within each focus area to address key concerns and bring us closer to achieving our long term vision. This survey includes a subset of some of the more familiar actions for your consideration and input.  For a complete listing of all actions, review this handout
