    When does the City engage?

    When does the City engage?

When does the City engage? Start here:

Question 1: Would public input define or influence outcomes?
Factors to consider: resources, requirements, decisions that have been made.

Answer: Yes – Go to question 2

Answer: No – The City will ‘inform’ the public about the project rather than collect feedback. This could include a website, open house, information session or fact sheet. Note that all projects inform to ensure participants have the information required to participate meaningfully in the engagement.

Question 2: How much influence will public input have?

Answer: Low to medium – The type of engagement is ‘consult’ or ‘involve’. Engagement will require shorter period of time, fewer resources consistent with project scope and scale, one or two phases of engagement, some reliance on stakeholders.

How to get involved: Surveys and online engagement are included in most projects. Consult or involve engagements may also include workshops, focus groups, surveys, or comment forms.

Answer: High – The type of engagement is ‘collaborate’. Engagement will require a longer period of time, more resources consistent with project scope and scale, multiple phases of engagement, and a heavy reliance on stakeholders.

How to get involved: Advisory committees, consensus building

Note: This is intended as a general guideline. The type of engagement and how you are engaged may change throughout a project.
